This is a combination of clips taken from the Knockout round of the Progressive Automotive X PRIZE.
The Amp 100% Electric Saturn Sky Racer successfully completed the "Knockout" stage of the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE Competition. This was held at the Michigan International Speedway from 6/22/10 until 6/29/10. There were many very demanding and rigorous testing trials, including the following: Technical Inspections, On Road Efficiency (90 miles at 45 MPH without recharging), On Road Range (68 miles at an average of 55 MPH without recharging), Emissions Testing, Dynamic Safety Testing (0 - 60 MPH in 18 seconds), Accident Avoidance Testing, and Lateral Acceleration Testing. Congratulations to the Amp Team! We now look forward to the "Finals" at MIS from July 19th to July 30th.
Wednesday and Thursday we had three races as part of the X PRIZE efficiency testing. They were city, urban, and highway MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) validation tests, which simulated different driving conditions. We recently received the results and X PRIZE officials stated that Team Amp did very, very well.
Just a few minutes ago we started on our 68 mile range test. Watch us live on the X PRIZE website:

Go Team Amp!
The Amp team left Sunday for Brooklyn, Michigan to compete in the second Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE phase: The Knockout Qualifying Stage. In order to remain in the competition, Amp along with all other remaining teams must demonstrate their vehicle can obtain at least 2/3 of the 100MPG equivalent goal, or 67MPGe. Amp passed technical inspection yesterday with flying colors! Wish us luck and follow Amp live at http://www.progressiveautoxprize.org/live

Team Amp is preparing their 100% Electric Saturn Sky Race Car for top performance at the "Knockout" stage of the Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize Competition. This event will occur at the Michigan International Speedway the week of June 20, 2010. Tim Wieck, Chief Mechanical Engineer, said, "Team Amp really enjoyed the "Shakedown" competition, and is looking forward to the "Knockout" stage of the X Prize competition". Amp's 100% Electric 2010 Chevy Equinox will also be on display at this event.
5th graders from a local Catholic school gave an overwhelming "very cool" rating to Amp's Progressive Insurance X Prize Car during a recent tour of Amp Electric Vehicles. Each student was also given a ride in the parking lot in Amp's X Prize car. Their teacher said his students really enjoyed the visit to Amp, and this educational experience was a real life example of lessons studied in their Science class on earth conservation and using new innovative energy sources.

On May 14, 2010 the University of Cincinnati honored Donald Wires, Amp Director of Engineering, with the "2010 Engineering Technology Distinguished Alumnus Award" at their annual College Awards banquet. In his 35 years at Procter and Gamble, Donald Wires co-authored several patents for modular high speed converting machines, machine safety systems, and advanced servo motion control, and was an early leader in developing the mechatronics approach for complex machine design. Currently, as Director of Engineering for Amp, Donald leads the development of fully electric, zero emissions vehicles, with a range of 150 miles at highway speeds. He is responsible for forging a technology direction and implementation plan that makes Amp a leader in the electric vehicle market. Donald continues to stay involved with UC as a member of the Advisory Council at the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Donald has been married for 41 years to his wife Vicenta (Vicky), and he is active in his church, St. Margaret of York. Amp congratulates Donald for this great honor, and we are happy to have him on the Amp Team!
